19 Ancillary Materials

Ancillary Materials are things like test banks, quizzes, slides, and lesson plans. As with subject availability, the format and types of OER that have been developed over time have largely been targeted at high enrollment courses which could see substantial cost savings for students. There are many open textbooks available today, but fewer options for ancillary materials. You can find lecture slides, notes, and lesson plans online, but ancillary content such as homework software and test banks are harder to find.

However, there are some good places to search

OER Commons https://www.oercommons.org/ A little bit of everything. Use the Advanced Search feature to refine your search to a specific format type
Merlot https://www.merlot.org/merlot/ MERLOT is an open educational resource project from the California State University system that started in 1997.
LibreText https://libretexts.org/ An online textbook platform that also includes many ancillary materials
OpenStax CNX https://cnx.org/ A place to find ancillary materials for OpenStax textbooks
Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/ All subjects and grade levels
