Items in Common App marked with a red asterisk * are required. Students are not required to complete items that do not have the red asterisk.
Introduction
In this section, you will complete the Profile section of your Common App account. You will add the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Demographics
- Language(s) Spoken
- Nationality
- Fee waiver qualifications

In this video, we discuss how to complete the Personal Information, Address, and Contact Details sections of Common App. The purpose of this section is for you to share information about yourself with colleges. This section should take approximately 5 minutes.
In this video, we discuss how to complete the Demographics section of Common App. The purpose of this section is for you to share gender, armed forces, and ethnicity information with college admissions. This section should take approximately 1 – 3 minutes.
In this video, we discuss how to complete the Language section of Common App. The purpose of this section is to inform colleges about your language proficiency. This section should take approximately 1 – 3 minutes.
In this video, we discuss how to complete the Geography and Nationality section of Common App. The purpose of these questions is for colleges and universities to better understand you and your background. This section should take approximately 1 – 3 minutes.
In this video, you will indicate if you qualify for a Fee Waiver and understand how to obtain one. This section should take approximately 1 – 2 minutes.
Tips & Reminders
- In order to complete the Profile section, students will need to provide additional information regarding their name, phone number, email address, and home address that was not included when they created their account. Students will also need to know their Nationality and Citizenship.
- If a student is applying for federal financial aid, they will need to enter their social security number.
- Fee waivers for Common App are available for students who have financial need. Students who apply for a fee waiver will need to indicate that need by checking the box.
- If you have additional questions, Common App Solutions Center has information for applicants, counselors, and recommenders.
A fee waiver lets you apply to college without paying an application fee. Common App contains a section where students who qualify for a fee waiver may check a box indicating that they qualify for a fee waiver.
